It's been said....

“There's more to clothing than just adornment.

It does more than merely change

how the world perceives us.

It changes how we perceive ourselves.”

― Jacqueline Carey, Naamah's Kiss

"One should either be a work of art,

or wear a work of art"

Have you ever wished that you could just step inside a painting?

July 12, 2019

A few fashion Fridays ago, I posted photos of whimsical dresses made out paper plates and pages of a book. As creative and imaginative as they are, nothing quite holds a candle to the work of Isabelle de Borchgrave (but please don't hold a candle to her art!). A painter by trade, the trajectory of her work shifted after a visit at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the mid 1990's.

Isabelle was so inspired that she returned  home to create reproductions of the dresses she had just seen using only paper.  She herself said, "I don't know what happened in my mind, but I went crazy." Fortunately, for all of us she did. Her life size creations take us, quite literally, into the paintings of the masters.
If you happen to be traveling to Michigan over the summer, you can see her work in person at the Flint Institute of Arts until Sept 8th.
See you next Fashion Friday.

PS: Save the date Tuesday, July 30 from 4:00 to 8:00. Women of Willow Grove will be opening their doors to their exciting new location at the Willow Grove Mall. My work along with the work of fellow artisans and makers will be there for you to touch, sniff, try on and purchase.
